• Explain why you think this is your most successful image
I believe this is my most successful image as the hard lighting and combined with the color and focus on the glasses is really unique. Moreover, this was the first image where I used my Sony Cybershot in a long time. Finally, the lighting and reflection of the glasses and shadows provides for a lot of movement within the photo.
• Tell us what was the most challenging aspect of this assignment
The most challenging part of the assignment was finding subjects that fit some of the categories. I realized how little I take photos while completing this assignment. I was pushed to take more photos than I typically do, which I enjoyed.
• Explain what you will do in the future to create stronger images
In the future I would set time aside to take photos of particular subjects as that is what I struggled with most. Photography takes a lot of planning and forethought. There were some photos that I had wished I had cropped differently or focused differently while taking. Having a goal technique is a very useful way to build my photography skills.
Diya Shah I’m drawn to this image because of its simplicity and the way the teal glasses pop against the muted background of the dashboard and dark setting. The glasses are clearly the main focus, and you composed them in an interesting way, placing them at the center and tilted, which adds a casual feel. The depth of field works well, blurring the background and keeping the glasses sharp, directing my attention to them. The focus is good for the subject, though the dashboard’s slight glare detracts a little. The exposure and contrast seem balanced, given the low-light conditions, but there’s a bit of a shadow that feels slightly overpowering. This image gives me a feeling of stillness and reflection, as…
I think the thing that really draws me to this photo is the light directed towards the glasses and the car clock. The angling of the glasses like you said really gives a nice shadow and adds dimension to the image which really grabs my attentions. The surrounding dark area, and lack of other items almost gives a lonely feeling as the glasses sit on the hood of the car by itself. Something I would do the strengthen this picture is to maybe angle the glasses a little more aggressively to create a more dramatic shadow effect
